Bill began his career in television as an intern with WVII-TV, Bangor, Maine’s ABC affiliate, while attending the University of Maine. He was offered a position at the station while still in school. Shortly after graduation he was promoted to full time as director for live newscasts and commercial productions. He fell in love with broadcast photojournalism when he had the opportunity to shoot his very first story. Soon after he was named the station’s chief news photographer. His talent and skill did not go unnoticed by WLBZ-TV, the NBC affiliate across town. He soon made the move where he served as camera operator for remote broadcasts and live sports events, as well as his daily news photographer duties. Not long after, Bill had his first photojournalism award. Soon after that Bill was again promoted to chief news photographer and continued to contribute to award winning stories. His crowning achievement came when he traveled solo to Central America where he produced and photographed a series of stories that went on to earn him his first statewide photojournalism award.

After 16 years behind the camera in Maine, Bill was named senior photojournalist at WLVT-TV, a PBS affiliate in Bethlehem, PA. As part of the Philadelphia market, Bill shot for a weekly news magazine as well as documentaries and ran camera for live remote and studio productions. Within three years, Bill and his colleagues had amassed several state awards, PBS awards and a regional Emmy.

As part of Bill Mason Images, Bill continues to do documentary work, commercial programming content, corporate projects and camera work for live events and sports. An important part of his work is lending his talents to the community as a photographer and consultant to non-profit organizations, churches and faith based organizations, schools and more.
